About UsThe Hobart Trio, a chamber ensemble in residence at William Paterson University. The trio was founded in 2015 and regularly appears on academic and community concert series. It is comprised of highly accomplished musicians who have performed with orchestras on National Public Radio, throughout Europe, and the United States, including Alaska's Arctic Chamber Orchestra and the Opera Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall. The piano, violin, and cello trio's repertoire encompasses the classics and works by contemporary composers. The Hobart Trio takes its name from the 24th U.S. vice president whose former home is a centerpiece on the University's campus.

Pianist Iris Perry has performed to high acclaim as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestras throughout Austria, Holland, Romania, former Soviet Republics and the United States. She is a prizewinner of international piano competitions including the Stravinsky Awards and Young Keyboard Artists Association International Piano Competitions. A recipient of the Yale University Bruce Simonds Scholarship Award for outstanding performance in solo and chamber literature, as well as a PBD Foundation Music Scholarship, Dr. Perry has taught at Yale, Indiana and Montclair State Universities, and Monmouth University. She served on the faculty at Bergen Community College and William Paterson University, where she also the director of Music Admissions. She holds a Doctorate of Music from Indiana University, a Master of Music from Yale University and a Bachelor of Music from Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
Kathleen Butler-Hopkins is a violinist who has concertized in major forums in the United States and Europe. Dr. Butler-Hopkins is Professor Emerita of Violin, Viola, and Chamber Music at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has taught at Yale University. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University School of Music and Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School. She has also attended The Curtis Institute of Music and was a Fulbright Scholar in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Butler-Hopkins has served as concertmaster and soloist with the Fairbanks Symphony and the Arctic Chamber Orchestras, and as a founding member of the Alaska Trio and the Alaska Chamber Players. She is currently a faculty member at William Paterson University and the Lake Placid (NY) Chamber Music Seminar. She returns to her home state of New Jersey after a long career in Alaska and is currently teaching privately and free-lancing in the area. Dr. Butler-Hopkins has been a contributor to Strings magazine and was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University. She received UAF College of Liberal Arts Excellence in Teaching Awards, was named String Teacher of the Year by the Alaska String Teachers Association, and was a recipient of the prestigious Usibelli Distinguished Service Award. Cellist Joseph Kimura is a past member of the Laurentian String Quartet and a member of the Festival Orchestra, Opera Orchestra of New York, Riverside Symphony, and Amici of New York. He has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Stamford Symphony, Hoboken Chamber Orchestra, Garden State Chamber Orchestra, Korean Symphony, Gloria Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the State of Mexico. Joe appears on recordings for the EOS ensemble and Riverside Symphony, as well as numerous movie and TV soundtracks. He has performed live on National Public Radio and appeared on Broadway with The Will Rodgers Follies and Beauty and the Beast. Joe holds Bachelors and Masters of Music degrees from the Juilliard School and an orchestral training certificate from the National Orchestral Association. He teaches at Summertrios and the Greenwood Junior Music Camp and has been on the cello faculty of William Paterson University since 2011. |
